Called "Jute". After her father's death, Jute went to live with her b rother Jake's family. She stayed only a few weeks until she was marri ed to William of a prominent Quaker family.
In 1864, the family moved west to Springdale, Kansas. that summer , they traveled with Jute's sister, Elizabeth, and her family and set tled near Cottonwood Falls, where they became members of Toledo MM. J ute had a difficult time with the birth of her fifth child and becam e very ill. She died on May 10, 1873 at the age of 33 and was followe d only a few months later by her infant son. William continued to wor k on the farm and raise their two surviving children.
